Cover Florida
The Cover Florida Health Care Access Program makes affordable health insurance available to nearly 4 million uninsured Floridians. No tax dollars were required to create this program, instead six private health insurance companies have partnered to help cover the uninsured in the state of Florida.
Participating Florida Health Insurance Companies
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida and United HealthCare will be available across Florida. In addition, the following health insurance companies will be available in a a few counties: Medica Health Plan of Florida, Total Health Choice, JMH Health Plan and Florida Health Care Options.
Health Benefits
Each participating health insurance company has made two health plans available as part of this program. One with catastrophic and hospital coverage, and one without, but they both cover preventive services, screenings, office visits, as well as office surgery, urgent care, emergency care, prescription drugs, durable medical equipment, and diabetic supplies.
Cover Florida Eligibility
To be eligible for Cover Florida, applicants must be between ages 19 and 64, and uninsured for at least the past 6 months. In addition, the following circumstance may make you eligible as well: job loss that provided employer -sponsored health insurance coverage, loss of COBRA benefits, or death or divorce from spouse from whom you received health coverage.
Even if you do not qualify for the Cover Florida Program there are many affordable individual Florida health insurance plans available, from top health insurance companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, AvMed, Vista Health Plan of South Florida and many more.
